Today on the Blog I'm chatting with the lovely Sarah of Your Wedding Unveiled.
Its a new Wedding Directory, but with the twist that its all about recommendation which as anybody knows is always a great place to start.
Sarah tells us how her business works.
What inspired you to start Your Wedding Unveiled ?
"I’m Sarah and I came up with the idea for our wedding recommendation directory after my own wedding back in July 2010 (The best day EVER!)"
"As a bride-to-be, I found the wedding service industry a minefield, to say the least!
How did I know which florist to choose? Which bridal shop stocked the designer I wanted at a price that was in keeping with our budget?
How did I know suppliers were reliable?"
"What I wanted was a service that was accessible 24/7, with local wedding suppliers in one place, giving me variety and choice.
To help with the big decisions we faced to make our big day our perfect day, I bought (and inherited) many, many wedding magazines which I spent every spare second ‘oooing’ and ‘aaaahing’ over, folding over enough page corners to have at least 6 weddings!"
"I also went to a few wedding fairs, which were a great experience (girly days out with the bm’s, mother, mother-in-law) and allowed me to see a wide range of suppliers and what they had to offer. Fun, fun, and more fun!
Now that’s something I would highly recommend! However, I still found myself seeking friends’ wedding recommendations of services they had used."
"So that’s when the idea of Your Wedding Unveiled was born.
Let’s face it; a girl’s wedding day is one of the biggest and most exciting days of her life.
It has to be perfect, regardless of budget, and will be a day she remembers for the rest of her life!"
How are you unique?
"I like to think of the directory as an online wedding fair accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! We aim to provide brides and grooms with suppliers local to them, who come recommended and cater to a variety of themes and budgets."
"Not only are we a wedding directory with 1000’s of wedding suppliers in one place, but we are a wedding recommendation directory.
Now this is the exciting part!
Any business can place an advert on a directory but there is no better advertising than word of mouth direct from happy customers.
What an amazing feeling having a customer who is over the moon with the product or service YOU supplied."
"It’s also such a great tool for engaged couples or anyone planning/involved in a wedding to see which suppliers come recommended and also why they come recommended."
Who is Your Wedding Unveiled for?
"It consists of 3 very important aspects, all equally as important as the next."
*Engaged couples, this one’s for you…Firstly, congratulations! You are about to embark on one of your most exciting adventures yet…planning your wedding!
We want to provide you (and anyone else involved in planning your wedding) with a comprehensive wedding directory service with loads of wedding services local to you along with the added bonus of positive recommendations.
Wedding planning can be stressful (definitely been there and done that!) and we aim to make it that little bit easier with real customer testimonials giving the inside scoop on literally, everything wedding!"
*Married couples…until you’ve been married I really don’t think you can appreciate the need to talk about your wedding day at every possibly opportunity!
First there’s the run up to it…MEGA exciting! Then there’s the day itself…amazing is an understatement, then there’s the honeymoon, when you get your photographs, oh and then when you get your album, and let’s not forget your first anniversary…it’s fab!
I know I still jump at the chance of talking about my wedding (9 months ago), amazing, amazing, AMAZING!!"
"YWU lets you gush away to all of the UK about the best day of your life thanks to the amazing suppliers you used.
We would love to hear from you and writing a recommendation couldn’t be easier, you will need to sign up but…it’s free!"
"We simply need to know about your fabulous suppliers from venues to florists, photographers to bridal shops, suit hire to bridesmaid dresses, wedding jewellery to wedding blogs, dove release to fireworks…everything and anything wedding!"
"If the service you want to recommend isn’t featured, no problem! Click ‘suggest a business’ and we’ll add it ready for you to recommend away.
The great thing is, ANYONE can write a recommendation whether you were the bride or groom, bridesmaid or best man, mother of the bride/groom or even a guest, we’d love to hear from you."
*Fabulous wedding suppliers…You help make these amazing weddings happen, here’s where we repay you!
We want to provide local wedding vendors across the UK with a platform to showcase your services.
Get a full page dedicated to you and only you, and let your customers shout from the rooftops how you helped make their big day.
We’re a recommendation directory and your customers can tell everyone about you and why they would recommend you. Told you the recommendation part was important!"
How do brides and ‘recommenders’ use the wedding directory?
"The recommendation directory service is also free to brides-to-be and anyone involved in planning a wedding, who would like to find fabulous suppliers to make their dream wedding!"
"It’s also free to married couples who would like to rave about their big day by writing recommendations about the suppliers who contributed to the best day of their lives!"
"ANYONE who has been involved in or attended a wedding can write recommendations.
It’s great to get different perspectives from brides, grooms, bridesmaids, best men, ushers, mother of the bride/groom, guests…EVERYONE!
Click log in, enter your details and voila! You’re signed up to browse and recommend as much as you like."
Where can we find you?
"We’re based in the North East but thanks to the powers of the World Wide Web, our site is everywhere!
If you’re a wedding-aholic like me, why not check it out."

Supplier Spotlight - Natasha Jane Headwear
Today I am delighted to showcase the stunning designs of Natasha Jane Ashley.
Her work harks back to a day of Golden Age glamour whilst introducing a fresh contemporary twist.
I have been chatting to Natasha on Twitter for quite some time, and am thrilled to be able to share her designs with you on the Blog today.
I had a chat with Natasha and found out about her exciting Business and her plans for the Natasha Jane empire!
What is it you do, and what services do you offer ?
"I am a bespoke headwear, and bridal headband designer based in the West Midlands.
I offer a bespoke service for ladies attending weddings and special events as well as bridal headbands for brides wanting a vintage inspired look with a modern infusion."
When, and why did you start your business ?
"I started my business just over two years ago when I was designing a bespoke wire orchid canvas for a local thai restaurant.
As I started to construct the orchid I thought they would sit perfectly in my hair as well as on the canvas, it kind of brought them to life especially when I would add coloured wire and crystals to them."
What inspires you ?
"I am inspired by many different areas, but mainly I draw inspiration form the glamourous looks of old movie stars of the fifties.
I also look at nature as many of my designs incorporate a leaf or petal style as I find them ever so pretty and delicate."
"When I receive a new design brief from a bride I draw from their inspirations too, if they want a particular look or colour theme, I find this pushes my creativity and gives the bride a truly original headband for their wedding."
What has been your favourite design, and why ?
"My favourite design is Agatha, I love this headpiece as it is both glamourous and unique, the shower of swarovski crystals are so eye catching - its been a favourite for a lot of people since I started showing it at wedding fairs too."
"I love to hear what other peoples favourites are as it helps me to design new styles, and gives me a better understanding of what brides are looking for for their wedding."
Whats your greatest achievement ?
"I think my greatest achievement so far would be actually setting up my business, its always scary starting a new venture, but I have had so much support from bridal bloggers and friends as well as those who have given their time to take part in photo shoots."
"I work full time in the day, and work on my own business on the evenings and days off so time is very precious, but you only get back whet you put in."
Whats the future for your Business ?
"I hope to move the business forward by selling my designs in more bridal boutiques, as my designs are vintage inspired the boutiques need to have a unique style as well and both headbands and dresses should compliment each other."
"I have my website which I also trade from and am learning to design and code it myself so I know everything there is to know about my business."
"Currently I am working on a couple more photo shoots, and one day I may get some work published in a magazine which would be fab."
Thanks to Natasha for sharing her stunning designs. I particularly love the Edita design with its glorious curving design. It just caresses the wearer and love its whimsical leaf design with just a hint of Art Deco.
I also love the Kathleen, not only as it is a family name but just the incredible workmanship and intricacy.

KNICKERBOCKER GLORY SHOOT - MrsPandP takes the Seaside !
On Monday 20th June, an entourage that shall be lovingly known as the "KnickerBocker Glory Posse"
descended on the seaside town of Largs.
The aim of the day was to showcase Scottish Wedding industry talent, and also for our fantastic photographer Kristin Mitchell of Struve Photography to dip her toe into the waters of Trash/Cherish the Dress shoots.
Background shots, and information on all those involved in the shoot can be seen HERE.
We were incredibly blessed to shoot in perfect weather conditions, and work with a top class venue who indulged our hours of shooting to get those "just right" shots.
I would personally like to thank the fabulous Nardini's, and my "Knicker Bocker Glory Posse" of Gail Rankin and Sophie Edwards and Kristin for making it an outstanding experience.
So without further ado, the images.

KNICKERBOCKER GLORY SHOOT - Behind The Scenes !
Our stunning location, Largs is a town on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, Scotland.
The original name - (An Lairgaidh) means "the slopes" in Scottish Gaelic.
Its a very popular coastal town, with strong historic links to the Vikings.
In 1263, it was the site of the "Battle of Largs" between the Norwegian and Scottish armies.
In view of this its really quite amusing that our fine photographer has strong Norwegian heritage.
My fantastic entourage included some very special people.
Firstly, Sophie Edwards, who does Makeup and Hair for Weddings and Special Occasions.
Sophie is a nationally travelled makeup artist working in fashion, TV and film.
She has fast become a top bridal makeup artist, and hairstylist, creating personalised looks for any occasion using only the best products in the industry.
Sophie is a lovely lovely girl with the most beautiful hair I have ever seen, she has a wonderful nature and puts you completely at ease, and is extremely talented. Anyone that can make me look decent has got to be given huge credit.
The awesome Gail Rankin was my hair stylist for the day, and this woman can do amazing things with a challenging mop top, and my hair is definetely a challenge.
Anything you throw at Gail she can deal with. She has worked with me on two shoots now and is just outstanding.
Gail is a bridal hair specialist with 18 years' experience, ten of those working in one of Scotland's top salons. But Gail has realised that a trip to a city salon on your very special day can be a logistical nightmare - so she now freelances but has her own studio in Linlithgow.
My lovely Photographer was Kristin Mitchell, a professional Wedding photographer, vintage addict, book lover, and Norwegian speaker who as a whole package is a absolutely lovely person who is pretty clever with a camera.
Her ethos is that she wants her photoshoots to be fun and enjoyable experiences for everyone involved, as that is how you achive a great photograph.
She isn't wrong in this thinking as she had my crew pulling faces at me to make me laugh.
Kristin is a credit to any couple or person being photographed by her.
Not joining us for the day but loaning us stunning Vintage hairpieces and jewellery was Louise Graham of Wedding and Baby, and my lovely gown was very kindly borrowed from Yvonne from fab Scottish stationery company Angelfins.
It seems quite apt then that we start off our day at Vikingar, where you can enjoy the historical and action packed Viking Experience.

We then moved on to the mecca that is Nardini's.
Nardini's is Scotland's most famous café, restaurant & ice cream parlour which re-opened in December of 2008 following a multi million £ refurbishment that has seen the landmark Art Deco building restored to its past glory with a new contemporary feel. Originally open in 1935, Nardini's is synonymous with a trip "doon the water" making it a must if you are visiting Largs.
After some initial shots our entourage paused for a bite to eat.
This club sandwich had to be seen to be believed. Beautifully presented, and quite tasty according to the lovely Sophie.
And then we drifted along the seafront just drinking in the sunshine and the glorious views.
To see all the images from the Shoot, link is HERE.
It was a wonderful day with incredible company, in a fantastic location, perfect for Engagement Shoots or Trash/Cherish the Dress.
We all had a lot of fun, a lot of laughs and went away not just work aquaintances anymore but as friends!

Supplier Spotlight - Giddy Kipper
Today I am extremely excited to have the awesome Heidi of Giddy Kipper speaking to me on the Blog.
Formed in the garden shed in 1999 by business partners Heidi Bowman [BA Hons] and Steve Clawson (and formerly called FISH craft and design), Giddy Kipper can now be found in an old malthouse in rural Lincolnshire.
Steve soon showed great talent for hitting things with hammers, and Heidi who had been 'colouring-in' for years (as a freelance designer!), quickly built up their first range - inspired by the sea and family holidays spent on the North Norfolk coast, and began travelling to craft shows to sell their wares.
Here Heidi shares a little more.
What is it you do and what services do you offer ?
"We make handmade home accessories, decorative items and personalised gifts that are all hand painted and hand finished by myself, partner Steve and our small Giddy Kipper crew!
Our ranges cover Coast, Country and Kids but our most popular range is definitely our Wedding range!"
When, and why did you start your business ?
"We launched Giddy Kipper at The Country Living Fair in 2004, and introduced our Wedding range in 2006 after numerous enquiries for us to make items for weddings from enthusiastic brides!"
"Since then it has grown into a range of gifts for Brides & Grooms, favours & venue decorations covering a wide range of themes and colour schemes."
What inspires you ?
"Everything! Ideas come from all sorts of places..I devour magazines and love to gather ideas from tv shows to snippets of conversation! A comment, colour or photo can trigger a wealth of product ideas..I have my sketchbook handy at all times to make sure I can scribble down ideas when they come to me."
"We're also regularly asked to make special pieces for weddings, and try to oblige if at all possible to make the day truly special and personalised for the bride & groom."
What has been your favourite product, and why ?
"I don't think I actually have one! I really do love everything that we make, and I love painting the designs. My favourite part though is adding the names and dates to the personalised items and thinking that our products are part of someone's special day."
"I once painted 150 wooden tags as place names for a wedding in Brazil, 20 sailboats with Greek names for table decorations at a wedding in South Africa, and 60 personalised hearts to give to guests at a wedding in Barbados!"
Whats your greatest achievement ?
"We're very proud of all our achievements - from building our business up from our humble beginnings in the garden shed to now residing in an old malthouse with 2 members of staff (with another joining us this Christmas)."
"Proud having products featured in the vast majority of national magazines & newspapers including Coast, Country Living, Period Living, Country Homes & Interiors, Homes & Antiques, Wedding, Wedding Ideas, Perfect Wedding, You & Your Wedding, Daily Mail, Daily Express.....(to name but a few!)."
"This year we were immensely proud to have been nominated for a Wedding Ideas award for Best Special Touches - we made it to the final 5 and only lost out to the huge wedding company Confetti!"
"We have also just been nominated for a further 2 awards in the notonthehighstreet.com Make Awards for Creative Business of the Year and Best Customer Service - a big achievement to be picked from 1800 small businesses!"
Whats the future for your Business?
"We have just welcomed our 2nd baby boy into the world so I am currently on maternity leave but I am bursting with ideas!"
"We have recently discussed expanding the business, taking on more staff and adding a lots of new products, so we are very excited about our plans!
We're also working on a new website which we cannot wait to launch."

Mums and Business - Why we shouldn't have to make a Choice!
Its a dog eat dog world out there.
As Business Mums a lot of the time we have to work twice as hard to be heard, and sometimes I find myself fighting what I think is an unwinnable battle BUT I know that myself and many others can offer a valuable contribution to the Working world and we refuse to go down without showing a little bit of spirit.
The way people view working mums can be very mixed.
Generally people that you meet or talk to admire your courage for doing it, there are those that aren't sure how you manage , then there are those that are completely dismissive, and can't see you as more than just a mum.
Not that there is anything wrong in just being mum if thats the choice you make, but the amount of people that think that as a Working mum that you are just playing at business, or doing it part time is staggering.
From personal experience the attitudes can range from mildly disilluisioned to completely insulting.
A few months ago, I was completely flabbergasted by comments by previous Apprentice Katie Hopkins.[sourced from The Mum Blog]
In her words "Business is not about family planning, its about making a profit"
Many parents are forced into self employment due to no or few opportunities within other sectors of the Business market.
Yes we have made the choice to have children but usually we have not made the choice to be made redundant, or forced out by those that think any other 18 year old that can do stupid hours would be better than someone with a bit of life experience.
Money whilst incredibly important in helping us to live should not be used as a stand off against childrearing.
Her other comments"To be honest its beyond me why any working woman would want to take any more than a couple of weeks off."
Well excuse me, WHY should we be forced to make choices, why should we be forced to make sacrifices we don't want to and shouldn't have to.
What have you got when you are gone ? You could be mega successful , have all the penthouses, cars, jewellery and money you could wish for but without someone to share it with or leave it to, whats that worth and whats the point?
And her last comments rile me most "Perish the thought of becoming some brainless, bloated version of your former self"
This makes me really angry.
I, and many women like me are certainly not brainless. I am in an industry that constantly inspires me, it makes me vital, and pushes me every day.
I am constantly being asked my opinion, I am able to give advice to others in my same situation and I am respected for what I do and what I have given to this industry.
Yes I might take a bit longer to get things done, maybe I can't do all the fancy shmaltzy things that non parents can do, maybe I'm not the coolest, and maybe I have to organise things with a little more thought and maybe I can't just hop in the car or plane to the next big event but OMG, I am anything but brainless.
The bit about bloated maybe a little closer to the truth, yes I'm not a size 10 anymore, and I probably never will be again but I am proud to bear the lovehandles that show that I made someone.
And I am proud of that!
Delia Smith also made comments in a magazine article that she might not have been so successful if she had had children.
I find this really hard to believe.
Having children challenges you in the kitchen having to come up with all manner of culinary delicacies to make sure your offspring eat right.
From being mum to 2 fussy eaters you have to get creative, or they would spend forever eating chicken nuggets or fish fingers.
Its really difficult to undertand these views , and it gets me really cross. Why does it have to be a choice?
I am passionate about my business like I am passionate about my family.
I find it extrordinarily offensive when people are so shortsighted that you can't have both business and family, that you aren't good enough, or that you can't be better or successful if you have kids.
I spoke to a mum in business who shared her experience.
Julie Davies of of Real - Photography said,
"The hardest thing I find with running a business is time juggling! Not so much time-management but getting into a routine where I have enough time to see clients, spend quality time with my children and be able to keep my home in some sembelence of order is the hardest part.
On the difficult days I have to try and remember what I'm trying to build and who I'm doing all this for. I tend to feel guilty, but overall when I see my kids and clients happy I feel like I am the proudest mum and businesswoman in the world."
I think this is the experience of us all, and certainly myself.
Children enrich you, they teach you more compassion, more patience , and in the Wedding Industry I find this useful.
Its almost as if your clients are an extension of your children, you want to nurture their vision, you want to do right by them etc.
And also M.T of Glasgow Girls Wedding Guide who said "Being a mum in business inspires me as I want to generate an entrepreneurial spirit in my children."
I think this is a fabulous attitude for as well as making a difference in our time we can influence the next generation of business too, and show them that it can be done with heart, and not so cut throat.
This might not be cutting edge, this might not be the Boardroom, and I would probably be the first to get "Fired" by Lord Sugar but really I don't give a stuff because I have what I want, its where I want to be at this moment.
I might still strive for the heights and the accolades that I aspire to achieve but I know that I am determined and I have the fight in me to get there.
You make your own destiny and you push to achieve your dreams.
We have so so much to give so don't let anyone with a non sensical attitude stand in your way.

Supplier Focus - Tiny Gems
Today I am thrilled to welcome the fabulous Sarah Marks aka Tiny Gems, aka the QUEEN of Wedding Twitter to the Blog.
I have known Sarah for quite some time, and I am quite delighted that she is speaking to us today.
What is it you do and what services do you offer ?
"I design, and hand-make one off heirloom bouquet’s, tiaras and jewellery.
My website tiny-gems has examples of my work, however the majority of what I do is in consultation with people designing and creating items for special occasions or gifts for themselves or someone special."
"My favourite is getting to see lots of pictures that I get sent for inspiration especially all the wedding dresses.
I have the best job in the world."
When and why did you start your business ?
"I started my business in 2010 when I was made redundant, and having made jewellery as a hobby and always wondered if I could make a go of being my own boss, I came to the conclusion it was now or never and if I didn’t give it a go now I would never know."
"As the old saying goes its better to have tried and failed than never to have tried and always wonder what might have been."
What inspires you ?
"Now this is a tricky one as there is a never ending list of what inspires me and it changes on a regular basis.
I think this is good though as it ensures my designs are all fresh and not the same."
"For example if I am designing something for a specific bride we will have chatted back and forth normally via email about what styles she likes, what the overall look of her wedding will be, her likes and dislikes and so on until I know exactly what she’s looking for and what she is wanting her look to be.
This will then inspire me to create something that is perfect for her."
"If I am designing new pieces maybe for the website or with no one in particular in mind I do draw inspiration from a very diverse range of things.
I have a love of vintage things so that definately inspires me."
"I sat in the garden making a necklace the other day, and when finished was told it had a very Egyptian look to it I looked at the necklace and thought oh yes your right it does!"
"I was listening to an audiobook on my ipod at the time which was about Egypt so it must have been subconscious.
Ever since I had a holiday to Egypt many moons ago I have been fascinated with the history so it stands to reason this would pop into a design at some point or other."
What has been your favourite design, and why ?
"Ohhh tricky question, can I only have one?
There are so many I have loved, and I do change my mind all the time (I’m a woman what can I say?)
Ok my favourite and this very moment in time then is Betty Blue Heirloom Bouquet.
She is made with all vintage brooches in lovely shades of blues and I just think she is so pretty."
"Although she is blue I think she would go lovely with a vintage tea party style theme with pinks and blues or even as a brides something blue.
I can just imagine all the vintage tea cups at the reception and Betty sitting proud in the middle of it all surrounded by bunting and happy smiley faces.
I do hope she goes to a good home I love her."
Whats your greatest achievement ?
"Again, another tricky question I am so proud of everything I have done and achieved with tiny-gems its really hard to pick one thing I am more proud of.
I suppose I would have to say my greatest achievement was the first time a bride to be contacted me and asked me to design an heirloom bouquet for her wedding with jewellery and a headband to match.
I was so excited to be such a huge part of the most important day of her life and the excitement was ridiculous I was running around the house squealing for joy.
"Having made lots and lots of bouquets, jewellery and tiaras etc for brides now you would think that this excitement may have diminished, but no I am still just as excited every time I have contact from a new customer.
I hope I never lose that and I honestly don’t think I will I love my job far too much."
Whats the future for your Business ?
"This year tiny-gems has begun being stocked in shops throughout the country so I hope to expand on that and be stocked in some more shops.
I have also started to hire crystal wishing trees in the local area so will be adding that service to the website soon (when I get a moment spare).
As to what the future holds that’s a question I can’t answer but I do know it will be very exciting and sparkly."
Thank you so much to Sarah for sharing her fabulous story and her gorgeous products.
I have to say Betty Blue does appeal hugely to me too but I have lots of love for the stunning Niamh necklace, visually stunning.
And also the Jacqueline heirloom bouquet. Its sunshine for the soul and a whole dose of happy all at the same time.
Another thing that has to be said too, and a huge achievement in my book is that a one of Sarah's pieces was featured prominently in the Royal Wedding issue of OK Magazine.
