Wedding Theme Inspiration - Lemon Souffle

This blog post is all about little touches rather than an overwhelming theme.
Yellow is a colour that is refreshing and uplifting.
It reminds us of sunshine and for most of us that lifts the spirits, and brings a little warmth to our hearts.
To bring this theme into a wedding can be done in a variety of ways.

As a prelude to the event, it can be brought through in the invitations.
This can also be brought through in Order of the day, menu, table plans and placecards.

Floristry plays a big part in this theme and sunflowers, gerberas, roses, daffodils, orchids and tulips in rich yellow hues are popular choices.

This vibrant shade will brighten any wedding table and will be a sunny addition to bridal bouquets, buttonholes, corsages and any other ceremony or reception decoration.

Other small touches to your reception venue could include yellow napkins, table runners or in the sashes of your chair seat covers.

For wedding attire, the yellow can be injected into ties, waistcoats and cummerbands.
Bridesmaids will look stunning.

And for a Bride wanting to make a real style statement.

And consider some gorgeous heels like these

For favours, consider tasty treats such as lemon bonbons or lemon drops in little colour co-ordinated
boxes, or have a fabulous colour co-ordinated candy buffet.

And then there is a the scrumptious cake - this can be simply decorated with similar floral adornment to co-ordinate with the rest of the wedding flowers, or it can be as simple or extravagent as you wish.

Or why not have some delicious cupcakes.

Bringing the addition of lemons into the mix, whether on the tables in pitchers of ice cold water or old style cloudy lemonade or using within floral arrangements to add something just a little bit different would be an interesting touch.

Today it is my pleasure to interview the fabulous Glasgow based Frank Holden, who shares with us how he interprets the amazingness of the one and only Frank Sinatra.

What is it you do and what services do you offer ?

"I supply my 5 star wedding, and corporate "Sinatra Entertainment"
I offer a very comprehensive and bespoke wedding entertainment service. Ranging from piano through dinner ...to my Sinatra two piece jazz set /trio/quartet/quintet and big swing band, all based on the three concerts I saw Frank Sinatra perform live.
All the entertainment is written and produced by myself personally."

When and why did you start your business ?

"I started my business some 14 years ago as the realisation of the dream I had to be able to offer people who are getting married, a five star Sinatra style entertainment package with attention to detail just like Mr Sinatra did in his day."

What inspires you ?

"That's easy...The fact that I have seen Frank Sinatra perform live on three occasions....hence my Sinatra weddings concept."

Whats your greatest achievement ?

"Musically to have taken my idea of Sinatra Weddings and made it into a successful business, that has performed in weddings from Inverness to Maidstone in Kent and provided a standard of service that is 2nd to none."

Whats the future of your Business ?

"To simply continue doing what I am doing."

"There is also the latest recording done 10 days ago of the Bob Dylan song "To make you feel my love" recently charted by "Adele" but I have given it a Sinatra feel "

Luck be a Lady - Casino Wedding Theme Inspiration.

After recently watching a Bond film, it came to me to blog about some idea's for a Casino themed wedding.
This theme can be brought together quite easily and the classic choice of black and white can be interspersed with vibrant red.

Invitations in your signature colour of black, white and red with perhaps a playing card design, or a vegas inspired design would be an exciting preview for your guests with a touch of fun thrown in.
And for on the day, these designs could be brought through in the Order of Service, menus and table plans.

I recently saw a really cool picture in a wedding magazine of a large antique effect frame with playing card size cards suspended by ribbon from its edges. Each card was assigned to a table.
Also playing cards printed with the guest names could be used for place settings.

Dressing your reception venue will be simple using classic white tablecloths with black napkins, black tablerunners or the use of black dishes. This could be done with a black base and white accessories too.
For a bit of sparkle and bling, you could use table confetti or table diamonds or to tie more with the theme, chocolate casino chips.
If using chair covers, a white base with a black sash would be lovely , as it would in the reverse order or intersperse your black sashes with red ones.

Vibrant red blooms in black vases would set off and complement the starkness of the black and white.
Alternatively tightly packed red roses in a cube vase on a mirrored plate with T- lights would look effective.
Or you could have large martini glasses with red and black beads or a bowl with red and black floating candles.
Or like below incorporating symbols from the casino theme.

For some entertainment, hire a Casino company to thrill yourselves, and your guests.

And you also can't get better than a cocktail bar for those lovely shaken not stirred martinis.

For wedding attire, there is nothing more cool and bang on theme than a man in a tux.
I am not really a Daniel Craig fan [the trunks do nothing for me!], my favourite bond is Sean Connery, with Pierce Brosnan as a close runner up.
For the girls, gorgeous red gowns would be beautiful or black gowns with red sashes, or flowers to complement.

or the Bride can be the one that takes a walk on the wild side with a stunning dress such as this.

For favours - Have chocolate casino chips in black and red favour boxes, personalised playing cards, cookies in the shape of hearts and diamonds etc. See this selection for some inspiration CAESARS WEDDING FAVOURS

And don't forget the sensational cake.

To co-oincide with this blog post I have put together a mood board with inspiration I have come across that co-incides with the theme. FACEBOOK

Supplier Spotlight - Rosalind Miller Cakes

Today I am delighted to speak to Rosalind Miller  of Peggy's Cupcakes and brand new Wedding business Rosalind Miller Cakes.

We had a chat about her business and the brand new arm of that business just being launched.

What is it you do and what services do you offer ?

"I bake and decorate wedding cakes and cupcakes. My cakes have been described as “edible works of art”, and I make bespoke wedding cakes that are contemporary yet romantic."

When and why did you start your business ?

"I started my business as Peggy's Cupcakes in 2007.
A few years ago I made a batch of cupcakes for my niece's birthday. She loves flowers so I had a go at making some sugar ones for decoration."

"I was amazed by the response from her friends, lots of 'ooohs and aaahs'. After that I often got requests to make them for family and friends."

My sister encouraged me to try and sell them. I started with a stall at Greenwich market.
I'll never forget that first day. The response was just amazing - most people stopped to admire the cakes, some of them thought they weren't real! People were taking photos of the stall, and by the end of the day I'd taken an order for my first wedding cupcake tower."

"I knew then that I could make a go of it.
Since then the business has gone from strength to strength, I've left my job lecturing in Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art to concentrate full time on the business, and I've moved on to making full sized wedding cakes, as "Rosalind Miller Cakes".

What inspires you ?

"Each cake is like a new canvas.
The seeds of ideas come from the consultation. Then it's a matter of coming up with a design, one which is in my own style but that expresses the couples wishes."

"There's a lot of thinking and doodling goes into it! Ideas come to me and I try them out till I find the 'right' one.
I find inspiration in many places; artworks and illustrations, films, fashion, jewellery, the garden. I like to mix classic and contemporary and I'm always on the look out for anything interesting that could be translated into a cake."

Whats your greatest achievement ?

"Building a successful business, at the same time being able to work at what I love doing.2

Whats the future for your business ?

"I want to concentrate now on the wedding cakes, and become known for innovative wedding cake creations."

"So,  along with my present business “Peggy’s Cupcakes”   I will be launching my wedding cake business “Rosalind Miller Cakes” at the National Wedding Show at London Olympia
on 18-20 February 2011."

"My wedding cake designs have appeared in national publications, including Conde Nast Brides, Vogue, and Perfect Wedding and I have recently finished filming for Wedding TV’s “The Great Cake Bake” (due to air in February 2011)."

"All cakes ordered at The National Wedding show are eligible for a 10% discount."

I am sure you will agree that Rosalind's creations look exquisite, and am sure they taste just as good.

Supplier Spotlight - Julie's Candy Cart

Today I am really pleased to introduce a fabulous new Scottish business.
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Julie Le Blanc, who late last year created her amazing new business Julie's Candy Cart.
Its a bit of a spin on the Candy Buffet idea, but presented in a unique. and very eye pleasing way.

I interviewed Julie. and she shares her story.

What is it you do and what services do you offer?

"I run a new business in the Southern/Central Scotland area.
I hire out a gorgeous Edwardian style candy cart for Weddings and any other special occasion."

"The main service is the provision and set up of Julie’s Candy Cart.
I dress the cart with organza bows, ribbons and swags in a colour to match the scheme of the celebration."

"I also include the use of elegant glassware, sweetie jars and/or cream enamel candy containers, in which we display the sweets.
Included are sweetie scoops, tongs and paper sweetie bags."

"I supply sweets after a discussion with the clients. We can decide on favourite sweets, or special requests from their friends and family. The clients can have as much or as little input as they wish."

"I will try to accommodate any special requests to make the day more personal and extra special.
This might include things such as, speciality sweets, themed buffets, colour coordinated sweets, cello wrapped sweet parcels with colour coordinated curling ribbons, special centre pieces, matching organza bags or cello bags rather than paper."

"If required, I can attend the cart, serve the guests and maintain that the cart remains clean and tidy."

When and why did you start your business?

"A new year, a new business!
I have been setting up, and promoting the business since November 2010. I have adverts mainly on Scottish wedding directories. I have a facebook page and have enjoyed helping to set up a new website."

“Julie’s Candy Cart” has been created initially for our own wedding, and was designed and hand crafted by my husband-to-be.
Not being big fans of the traditional wedding favours, we really wanted an unusual and unique concept."

"We searched for a Candy Cart, for our special day, but struggled to find what we were looking for. That is when “Julie’s Candy Cart” was born!
While creating a stand-alone centre piece which is eye catching and a crowd pleaser, we solved the problem of having to give traditional wedding favours to our guests."

"I gave up my teaching job 18 months ago after having my second child and relocating to Strathaven.
Now we are settled here, it is an ideal time to start thinking about “going back to work”.

"Teaching is out of the question as it restricts the time that I can spend with my family. Starting my own business seems like a great alternative. My family can be involved with what I am doing and the majority of the work can be prepared at home."

"I have fallen in love with the Candy Cart and want others to have the benefit of its use and to enjoy it on their special day. There is a shortage in the wedding market for this service."

What inspires you?

"Since I have started researching the wedding market and have set up the business, my main inspiration is seeing all the mums out there (mumpreneurs) who are in a similar situation to me, bringing up young families, but still wanting to make a go of their own business."

"They work long hours, outside of family time, to give a professional service to brides and grooms-to-be. They go above and beyond to make special dreams come true."

What’s your greatest achievement?

"It is early days for “Julie’s Candy Cart”. So far my greatest achievement has been designing the cart and planning its “look”.
Making its different coloured canopies, bows and swags to achieve the right look has been great fun.
So far there are six different colour schemes and hopefully many more to come. To have enquiries coming in and bookings after only two months- who could ask for more?"

What’s the future for your business ?

"Looking into the future is exciting!
I have a talented husband-to-be who has made the cart for me, and hopefully will make many more in the not too distant future.
I have an eager 2 year old daughter who loves pinching the sweets and already says “Mummy’s Candy Cart!”

"I also have a vision – Mum and daughter working together with a whole fleet of Candy Carts and a special miniature fleet for those little one’s special celebrations."

Julie's cart is now ready to serve any celebration, not just Weddings, from christening, birthdays to bar mitvah's, the list of possibilities is endless.

The Candy Cart serves the Central Scotland area, and if you want to catch up with Julie, she will be exhibiting at the Scottish Wedding Show on the 19th/20th February at the SECC, Glasgow.

Also Julie is running a 10% off promotion till the end of Jnuary
