From Kim Kardashian’s six-foot black and white tiers, to the Duchess of Cambridge’s classic reception centrepiece decorated with 900 sugar-paste flowers, cakes are back in vogue as a Wedding style essential.
A new concept in reception catering can offer a bespoke cake that is unique, fresh, style and memorable. Now every bride can feel like a princess or part of Hollywood royalty.
Launched in 2005 by Marie Sinclair and based in Hertfordshire, Genuine Cakes bake and decorate cakes for all occasions specializing in Wedding Cakes as well as Birthday Cakes, Christening Cakes and Anniversary Cakes, to name but a few.
Cake sizes range from cupcakes to 6-tier Wedding Cakes with deliciously light and moist flavours.
Marie says "For a number of years, Sundays for the children meant homemade sponge cakes with custard after dinner. A friend was quite ill, so I baked her a cake to cheer her up and it worked!
One day, I had a light bulb moment: the children enjoyed my cakes, as did my friends and family, so when I was asked if I could ice and decorate as well, the obvious answer was yes (but I had to buy a cake decorating book first!!!)"
"After that, I enrolled myself onto a few cake decorating courses and found great pleasure in creating cakes from start to finish and realised I had found my niche, the rest is history."
Since 2005 business has grown, and now the team behind Cheryl Cole’s birthday cake, have launched a specialist division for luxury wedding cakes - GC Couture.
GC Couture officially launched at the Luxury Wedding Show in October, and unveiled the new GC Couture website, new logo, branding, new packaging – the works!"
Marie said “The GC Couture 2012 Collection has been individually and creatively designed around the style and genre of the Princesses of our time."
“Each cake will attract brides looking for something different; whether art deco, classic or vintage, our collection has something to catch every bride’s eye.”
In addition to the existing 24-cake flavour portfolio, GC Couture will be introducing a 10 new flavours for the New Year, which will include Amaretto Fruitcake, Rum & Raisin, Chocolate & Coconut and Pina Colada - perfect for 2012 brides who want their cake to be individual and memorable.
Each cake will incorporate a section of the GC Couture logo as well as the signature GC Fleur, available in a variety of styles and colours according to the design of the cake.
The GC Couture collection starts from £600.
Photography for the new range took place at Stoke Park earlier this month.
Polly Atkinson, Lifestyle Editor of BRIDES Magazine, helped to style the shoot.
“Style, glamour and romance; the new GC couture cake collection has it all,” Polly says.

With an impressive selection of 24 delicious flavours you won’t be short of choice when it comes to the taste either."
