Remember why ! - wedding tip for today.

Sometimes we get so caught up with the finer details of the day that we forget the reason why we are doing it in the first place.Sometimes there is so much pressure to compete or be unique that love gets forgotton a bit, anyone seen BRIDE WARS ?

All our nerves can get frazzled now and then and we can say things in anger , stress and frustration that we don't really mean.

Give yourself time to take stock every now and then, sit down with your H2B and just have you and him time.It might be the cinema, it might be dinner, it might be a cuddle in front of the telly , its not important where, its just the doing it.Arrange that date night tonight!

Homecoming!

2009 is an important year for Scotland.
Homecoming Scotland is a year long celebration of the people, talent, minds, innovations and the rich heritage and culture of Scotland.
It also celebrates the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Rabbie Burns.
I also hope that 2009 becomes the year that I make my mark.
As a new business , I have faced challenge but things are finally starting to look up and I look forward to the future and all the amazing experiences that that brings.
As a country we have faced the same challenges and there are few that haven't been hit hard by recession.
Myself, like Scotland will soldier on. We are fighters !

Creativity explored !

Can I just say that Hobbycraft is a treasure trove for the creatively minded.
I was struggling how to put together a small part of the event I have been working on and 10 minutes in there and everything has come together.
I really can't wait to create the vision I have, in the room rather than in the crevices of my mind.

On another note , a venue to consider for any celebration for those with an arty disposition is http://www.crear.co.uk
It is in Lochgilphead, Argyll.
For a wedding, you have the option of being married on a sandy beach or in the unique space inside.
The whitewashed walls provide a blank canvas for splashing colour and creating your chosen theme.
Very pretty .

Classic !!!!

This is a little wedding video from You Tube and wow , don't you wish you were at this wedding !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-94JhLEiN0

You'll either love it or hate it but they look like they had so much fun and it was right for them.

I bet there are few among us who would be so brave!

Eureka!

You know when you just get those moments of divine inspiration that you just know are going to make for a fabulous idea!
Was doing the hoovering this afternoon, business women still have to clean the house.... and an idea just came to me and has just spiralled since.
It is for a party early in the new year and if I pull it off...which I know I can... it is going to be totally great!
No details as yet because I have to run it past the hosts but watch this space!

Good Day !

Today has been a pretty good day !

This morning, I got a phone call from someone enquiring about a job with me.
Very very flattering but as a relatively new business , I am not really in a position to take on any additional staff but it is something to think about for the future.

This afternoon got a lovely email from my fabulous June bride , saying that she and her hubby had nominated me for a VOWS award [ wedding industry award].
It was totally unexpected and I am fit to burst with pride that someone valued my work that much. !

Here comes the Bride !

It's 2 and a half weeks till my next wedding.
Been doing some distance planning and assistance for a friend in Manchester.
Its getting close now and she is super giddy with excitement.
Her last dress fitting was the other day and her gown is perfect, she is finished her favours and they are fabulous, and the bridesmaids dress fittings were today and the custom made black and pink dresses are lovely !
Her 3 month old daughter is going to look such a peach in her little dress too.
There have been some venue issues but we are working through them and it will not have any effect on how special her day will be.
I am travelling down to Manchester the day before and doing some set up assisitance and then ITS THE BIG DAY!!!
I am really looking forward to sharing her day x

2009 Theme Song !

Some songs were written to speak to you and this one certainly does !
The boys from Manchester did good and I have decided that this track should be my 2009 theme song.
I know not to everyones taste but Crikey , they put on the best show I have ever seen in my life.

Here it is :

La Dolci Vita !

Was contacted today by the Italian Chamber of Commerce.
They have extended me an invitation to attend an event / one day workshop at the start of October, that will be promoting Cagliari and Sardinia.
This is due to a new Ryanair flight now flying between Edinburgh and Cagliari.
It will be an important opportunity to meet representatives of the Italian travel and lesuire sector and it will give me information that I can pass on to clients about this area being a possible honeymoon location.
It will be lovely to go and learn more about the region as I love all things Italian.
There will be nice nibblies too [ yum!]
And if they need ANYBODY to go on a research mission to the area , I will be only too happy to step up, lol !!!

Murder and Mystery and Yummy Scrummy Food !

Got contacted by a scottish based company called Blue Murder Events.
They specialise in murder mystery events whether located in your private home or in exclusive city centre locations [ Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Perthshire, Bath and more...].
They wondered if it was a service I would recommend to my clients and I am very excited to say that it all sounds totally fab and fun.
They have a great tag line that just draws you in...
"If you thought murders were only committed in country houses on stormy nights, THINK AGAIN!!!"
They have hen night specific versions, wittily titled, Masquarade and Footballer Knives!
I am going to be only too happy to promote this service as it is something I wish was around when I got married.
You can view their site at http://www.bluemurderevents.co.uk/

Also got contacted today by a caterer friend , who supplied the meal at my last wedding.
He is sending me his function price list so I can recommend him for any weddings or parties I assist with.
His name is Scott Gunn, he is a great cook and can be contacted at clancaterers@yahoo.co.uk

The Kindness Trend !

Christina Aguilara did it , Angelina Jolie is reported to be doing it !
Now couples everywhere are including sponataneous acts of kindness into their wedding plans.

This can be through various different ways:

*Charity Gift list* - Oxfam, Save The Children, NSPCC, their is even a charity wedding gift list at John Lewis
*Wedding Gown bought from charity store*- Oxfam in U.K and Goodwill in the U.S
* Charity Pins bought for favours* - ie. Cancer Research

This way the profit goes to the needy and it's exciting to see people opening their hearts to others less fortunate.
What better way to celebrate love than to share just a little bit with others !

Trends for 2009 - Whats hot for Weddings NOW !

Tip 1 - Renting a Photo Booth is an exciting idea that has been gaining in popularity for the last few years.
Quite a few photographers offer this, but a good one that I would recommend is Rhoddy Stewart, based in Falkirk, Scotland
This is included in his wedding photo package
www.rhoddystewartphotography.co.uk
The photos will be more natural as everybody will have relaxed after the formailities of the day
The updated 2009 version of this idea is a little more jazzed up.
Create a space at your reception where fabric backdrops, chairs, props such as hats, scarves, feather boas etc. can be left so that guests are treated to something just a little bit crazy and a little bit different.

Tip 2 - Greener weddings
*Consider potted plants for table centres than than pesticide treated blooms
*Send invites electronically or through your wedding website, so that paper use is cut down
*Use a caterer that sources his food locally and organically

Tip of the day - 14th July

Weddings are stressful things. At some point most of us have the classic "BRIDEZILLA" moment or six.
When you are feeling challenged , sit down , take a breath, there is nearly always a solution.

For events beyond our control , I thoroughly recommend Wedding Insurance, it is a safety net in uncertain times and it something I consider very important.
AND it could be the best £50 you will ever spend if something unfortunately did go wrong.

A lot of problems stem from guest list , especially if parent involvement in the budget.
Relatives can creep out from the woodwork [ like Great Aunty Beryl you last saw when you were 4] and your carefully managed budget can become an astronomic expense.!
This is the time when compromise comes into effect , be firm but calm and remember and make sure others remember , it is YOUR SPECIAL DAY!!!

Updates

Have been doing some work over the weekend for a 40th Birthday Party that I am helping with. Trying to source a venue and ideas for decoration.

Top of my list is a candy bar, very very popular at weddings and parties alike , this year !

PLANS AND PRESENTS- Possible launch party !

Thinking of doing a proper launch event.
I need a showcase to market myself.
I have so many ideas whizzing around that my head is spinning.
I like the idea of a summer ball , venue decoration in vibrant red, subtle lighting, crisp pink fizz, strawberries and a chocolate fountain.
I know a magnificent caterer who I recently used at a wedding, Glasgow has lots of fantastic venues and I know a up and coming D.J who has his own band too.
It is all so exciting but slight technical hitch is........revenue to make it all happen!
I would love to be able to show everyone what I can do ,and I will ,but organisation takes time and a lottery win in the meantime wouldn't go wrong, lol!!!!!!!!!!!
I would also like to put all profit from the event towards Cancer Research as that is important to me.

Networking [ it must be done!!!!!!!]

I have joined a new social networking/marketing forum called Supermummy Mumpreneurs.
It is great to see how well some other people in my situation have made great success of their businessess with the great support you get there.
And if it gets me added publicity then that is an added bonus as well .
